PR-B students attend BPA leadership conference
Students from Pine River-Backus High School attended the Business Professionals of America (BPA) 2013 Spring Leadership Conference in Minneapolis on March 7-9.
Accompanied by their business teacher, Kyle Bergem, students competed in the Fundamental Accounting and Global Marketing team competitions. Students qualified to advance to the state level by ranking at the regional contest held in January.
Competing on the Global Marketing Team contest were Morgan Demars, Drey Loge and Lacey Schermann. The team developed a plan to market refurbished technology products internationally. Their project ranked in the top half among the teams competing at the state competition.
Mandy Fontenot competed in the individual Fundamental Accounting competition.
The conference included roughly 1,200 students from schools across Minnesota. Through the BPA Workplace Skills Assessment Program, more than 50 contests are offered in four categories: Financial Services; Administrative Support; Information Technology; and Management, Marketing and Human Resources.
By providing a comprehensive program of regional, state and national competition the organization develops, measures and recognizes the business and office skills, leadership abilities and chapter team efforts that members are working on in the classroom.
The students thank the PR-B Booster Club for its help to cover the cost of meals while attending the conference.
