Students earn blue ribbons at speech tournaments

The Pine River-Backus Speech team competed at the Bemidji Lumberjack Junior-Varsity Meet on March 5.

Katey Hanson took home a blue ribbon in Original Oratory for her persuasive speech on the deaf-blind.

Ben Remington and Kyle Tschida took home blue ribbons in Dramatic Duo for their interpretation of Dr. Seuss’ Green Eggs and Ham.

Claudina Williams took home a red ribbon in Informative Speaking for her speech on Haiti.

Troy Fetter took home a red ribbon in Prose for his reading of an excerpt of The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan.

Also competing but not winning an award:

• Creative Expression: Jarod Birr and Tyler Cumberland

• Dramatic Duo: Jason Cadwell and Taylor Siltman

• Extemporaneous Reading: Brittany Dowling and Alicyn Kordiak

• Informative Speaking: Dustin Lane

• Humorous Interpretation: Tara Huston and Austin Mackert

• Prose: Anthony Owczynsky

Walker tournament

We also competed at the varsity tournament in Walker on Saturday, March 2.
