Beginner Gardening class offered in Pequot Lakes

A certified University of Minnesota Extension Crow Wing County Master Gardener will teach a Beginner Gardening class from 6:30-8 p.m. Monday, March 4, in Room 109 at Pequot Lakes High School.

Master Gardeners are University of Minnesota-trained volunteers whose job is to educate the public about a variety of horticulture subjects using readily available, up-to-date research-based information. The Master Gardener Program educational effort is designed to enhance the public’s quality of life and to promote good stewardship of the environment.

Jackie Burkey will teach Beginner Gardening, an easy-going gardening class for someone who has never grown anything but is ready to try a few veggies or flowers. Class will cover basic tools for the beginner, simple soil, light and water requirements for success, compost and mulch, fertilizers and bug killers, and how to choose what to plant without spending a fortune.

This class is not for someone who already knows how to garden and would be good for first-time homeowners.

Class fee is $10. A minimum of five registered students is required for class to be held.

Contact Pequot Lakes Community Education for more information or to register at 218-568-9200.
