Village weekends provide a fun and unique language and cultural immersion experience. Students’ understanding can improve drastically during a village weekend and encourage their enthusiasm for language learning.

Language and culture come to life through authentic games, arts, sports, traditions, music, food and native-speaking staff. Students have continuous opportunities to use their present French skills and develop a higher level of proficiency during fast-moving, activity-filled weekends.

Meals are culturally authentic and are often named in evaluations as one of the best parts of the program.

This year’s theme centered around photography. PR-B students, along with other students from around the state, spent their time rotating through different activities from the history of photography, to watching videos teaching about technique, to actually taking their own photos.

At the end of the weekend, they presented their photos, complete with French titles, to the entire group.

Students stayed in cabins with their counselors, who were native speakers from France, Canada, Belgium and Algeria, along with Concordia College students majoring in French.

Melanie Lindquist, PR-B French teacher, is a graduate of Concordia College and a past staff member of the Village Weekends and summer French camps.
