PR-B business students test skills at BPA conference

Pine River-Backus High School business students tested their skills at the 2013 regional Business Professionals of America (BPA) conference Jan. 23 at M-State, Detroit Lakes.

The following students competed in the Fundamental Accounting contest: Mandy Fontenot, Cody Mager, Randall Osier, Brett Reed and Kelsey Schwartz.

The following students competed in the Payroll Accounting contest: Sara Hopkins, Beau Howard, Dylan Irish, Ashley Johnson, Andrew Munsch and Meggie Stevenson.

PR-B also had a team compete in the Global Marketing contest that included: Morgan Demars, Drey Loge and Lacey Schermann.

Fontenot, Demars, Loge and Schermann placed to qualify for the state level competition. These students will compete at the 2013 State BPA Conference on March 7-9 in Minneapolis.

BPA is a national student organization for students preparing for careers in business. The organization consists of local chapters in secondary and post-secondary institutions across the country. The mission of BPA is to contribute to the preparation of a world-class workforce through the advancement of leadership, citizenship, academic and technological skills.

Through the BPA Workplace Skills Assessment Program, more than 60 contests are offered in four categories: Financial Services; Administrative Support; Information Technology; and Management, Marketing and Human Resources. By providing a comprehensive program of regional, state and national competition the organization develops, measures and recognizes the business and office skills, leadership abilities and chapter team efforts that members are working on in the classroom.

The Pine River-Backus BPA chapter is led by business instructor Kyle Bergem.
