Getting Ready for School-Make and Take training set Jan. 24

Area child care providers, preschool teachers and parents are invited to attend the 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, Getting Ready for School training at Breezy Point City Hall.

The Make and Take training will focus on easy-to-make “homemade” learning activities that promote literacy skills. Each participant will go to all of the activity stations. They will leave with a resource kit of ideas for teaching letter recognition, sound awareness, phonics, print awareness, speaking and literacy skills.

Fun, practical, “homemade” instructional projects will be offered. Participants are encouraged to share their creative teaching ideas, too.

Social skills are an important part of school success. The training will include ideas on social-emotional skills development. Learn how books, storytelling, dramatic play and puppets can be fun ways to share social skills instruction.

Call 218-568-9200 to register for the free training. Check in at 6 p.m., enjoy a light supper and earn 2.5 clock hours of training credit.

Door prizes of a free children’s book will be given to participants.

Getting Ready for School-Make and Take training is funded in part by the Initiative Foundation, a regional foundation. The Make and Take training is sponsored by the Pequot Lakes, Breezy Point, Crosslake Early Childhood Coalition.
