Two agriculture councils holding board elections
Minnesota’s Dairy Research and Promotion Council and the Minnesota Turkey Research and Promotion Council are holding elections for their board members. These board members decide where producer check-off dollars are spent.
Locally, there is one two-year dairy term open in Cass County (District 3); and one three-year turkey term, as well as two grower-at-large positions and one breeder-at-large position, in Region 1, which includes Cass and Crow Wing counties.
Dairy elections are broken down by districts at the county and township levels, and turkey elections are broken down by region. Anyone who lives in one of the listed districts or regions and who has not received a ballot in the past should request one through the council or Minnesota Department of Agriculture website at http://www.mda.state.mn.us/en/food/business/commodityballot.aspx.
Ballots for dairy will be mailed to producers Jan. 10, 2014, and must be returned with a postmark no later than Jan. 27, 2014.
Ballots for turkey will be mailed to producers Jan. 17, 2014, and must be returned with a postmark prior to Feb. 3, 2014.
