Australians attend Pequot Lakes Toasmasters meeting

The Out of Towners Toastmasters Club welcomed four visitors earlier this month, including a fellow Toastmaster from Australia.

Alexander and Barbara Goodman of Canberra, Australia, were visiting friends Don and Shirley Kremer in Pequot Lakes. When Alexander, a Toastmaster himself, found a club meeting in Pequot Lakes, he not only decided to attend the July 8 meeting at the Pequot Lakes Library, he brought along his wife and friends.

Alexander shared thoughts on how the meeting was run, and he spoke during the impromptu Table Topics portion of the meeting, winning the Table Topics award with an emotional story about his wife and their friendship with the Kremers.

Don and Alexander met in 2002 in Germany, when the two were on a tour. Don tapped Alexander on the shoulder and asked him to translate when the tour guide kept lapsing into German.

The two have stayed in touch ever since, and soon a friendship formed among the couples. This was the Goodmans' first visit to the United States.
