Echo Publishing welcomes Dallas Steffen of Backus and Katie Morford of Pequot Lakes as reporting interns this summer.

Steffen graduated from Pine River-Backus High School in 2010 and attends Bemidji State University, where he will enter his final year this fall.

From a young age, Steffen loved to learn about something and share it with others. He looks forward to learning more from the Echo staff in Pequot Lakes and the people of the area. He hopes to grow and use his skills to bring the news to readers, and possibly share what he learns if he decides to teach others after graduating.

Morford grew up on the Whitefish Chain of Lakes, enjoying the scenery, traditional events and visitors this area draws. Water-skiing and going to get ice cream on the boat with her family are some of her favorite ways to enjoy summer.

Morford attends Northwestern College in St. Paul, where she is majoring in journalism. She will graduate in December 2014.

She looks forward to working with the Echo staff this summer and learning more about all the interesting people, organizations and events in the area.

I've worked at the Brainerd Dispatch with various duties since Dec. 7, 1983. Starting off as an Ad Designer and currently Director of Audience Development. The Dispatch has been an interesting and challenging place to work. I'm fortunate to have made many friends, both co-workers and customers.
