Independent bookstores to launch ereaders
As of early November of this year, independent booksellers across the nation will launch Kobo, an ereader intended to compete with the Kindle and the Nook.
Currently, Kindle owners can only buy their ebooks through Amazon, effectively taking a large share of ebook sales away from independent booksellers and revenue away from local economies.
Although Nook and iPad users could buy ebooks from Indies, the Indies typically didn’t sell the devices.
