PR-B, Pequot seniors to receive diplomas May 30
The Pequot Lakes Class of 2014 will become a part of school history at 7 p.m. Friday, May 30, when seniors walk for graduation for the first time in the new athletic complex.
For 34 years, since the Class of 1980, Pequot Lakes seniors have received their diplomas in the high school gym that was part of an addition to the school building in 1979.
This year’s senior class has 109 students, a somewhat smaller class than in recent years. Departing Eagle View Elementary School Principal Dave Endicott will deliver the commencement address. The valedictorian is Sarah Rudlang and the salutatorian is Ellie Erholtz. Rudlang will give a speech in addition to a senior address by Erholtz and senior Angela Cole.
The class flower is the dahlia and the class colors are baby blue and charcoal. The class song is “Best Day of My Life” by American Authors, and the class motto is “Best you’ve seen, Class of 2014.”
A smaller but no less excited class of 58 students will walk during the Pine River-Backus (PR-B) graduation ceremony at 7 p.m. Friday, May 30, in the Performance Gym.
Valedictorian Amanda Fleming and salutatorian Colton Dabrowski will speak, along with teachers Melanie Lindquist and Lynn Wangberg. High School Principal Trent Langemo will give a brief biography on this year’s German foreign exchange student, Charlotte Hanke.
The senior choir will sing “Home” by Phillip Phillips and the band will perform “Ireland: Of Legend and Lore.” This year’s class flower is the calla lily. Class colors are red, silver and black. The class song is “My Wish” by Rascal Flatts.
