Fifty Lakes Foundation to host presentation May 16

Julie Engle will give a presentation on the Five Things You Need to Know about Lyme Disease at the Fifty Lakes Foundation meeting Friday, May 16, at the foundation clubhouse.

Engle also will present a film, “Under Our Skin,” and take questions.

A potluck dinner will be at 6 p.m. The speaking program will begin at 7 p.m.

She is a graduate of the University of Minnesota-Duluth, with degrees in biology and chemistry. Her family owned Edgewild Resort on West Fox Lake.

After college she began her scientific career and has worked in Japan and Brazil and has done laboratory research at the University of Minnesota Medical School.

In the early 1990s she became ill, and her working career was cut short. Her illness was a medical mystery until 2012 when she was correctly diagnosed with Lyme disease.

Now in recovery, she is undergoing treatment and her health is improving, Her experience has caused her to research the illness and become an advocate for people with Lyme disease.

The Fifty Lakes Foundation clubhouse is at 40554 S. Eagle Lake Road (northeast corner of Crow Wing County Roads 1 and 3 intersection in Fifty Lakes). Guests are welcome.
