Pequot Lakes Just For Kix dancers to perform spring show Saturday
Pequot Lakes Just For Kix (JFK) dancers will perform their annual spring show at 5 p.m. Saturday, April 26, in the gym at the Pequot Lakes High School Athletic Complex. Dancers range from 3-year-olds to 12th-graders.
Cost to attend the show is $6 for adults and $3 for students. The event will feature a light show and a special lyrical production by dancers in grades 2-12.
JFK has offered classes in Pequot Lakes since 1995. Anna Larson has been the Pequot Lakes JFK director since September 2002 and works with a head instructor, Alli Spieker, and two assistant instructors, Khloe Wiewel and Shai Peterson.
The three instructors will leave to attend college in the fall, so will perform a small group dance as a farewell at the spring show.
Larson has been a part of JFK since the company formed in 1981, first as a dancer and then as an instructor.
“I have a passion for dance. I enjoy the girls and their families,” Larson said. “And now that my daughter’s involved in dance, it’s extra special. It’s great for self-esteem for the girls and builds confidence.”
JFK serves as a feeder program for the Pequot Lakes High School Revolution dance team, though anyone interested in dance is welcome.
“I would love to see more kids from Pine River and surrounding communities,” Larson said.
Classes offered include kick, jazz, lyrical, hip hop, ballet and technique.
Classes are held at Eagle View Elementary School in Breezy Point. Any skill level is welcome and dancers can join at any time.
Dancers perform two shows annually, in December and April, and participate in the Pequot Lakes homecoming parade and homecoming football game halftime show, basketball game halftime shows, Festival of the Arts in Pequot Lakes, as well as competitions.
