Strandlie announces re-election bid for Cass County attorney

Cass County Attorney Christopher J. Strandlie announced he will seek re-election as Cass County attorney. Strandlie has been the Cass County attorney since March of 2008.

Strandlie joined the Cass County Attorney’s Office in 2001 and served as the first assistant from 2003 until becoming county attorney. Before becoming the county attorney, Strandlie primarily focused on the prosecution of violent and controlled substance crimes and he continues to make them a priority. He is the chief legal adviser for all county departments.

In a news release, Strandlie said he continues to enjoy the challenges that are presented to his office on a daily basis. He is proud of the relationships that he has developed with the Cass County Board, department heads and the various county, tribal municipal, state and federal law enforcement agencies.

Strandlie understands the importance of those relationships while also appreciating the hard work of his assistant county attorneys and support staff. Public safety continues to be the top priority of the Cass County Attorney’s Office.

During his career, Strandlie has prosecuted everything from speeding tickets to first-degree murder. The county attorney’s office continues to assume a leadership role in many initiatives to reduce recidivism and enhance public safety through education and treatment.

Strandlie indicated that he is particularly proud of the commitment that his office has made exploring innovative ways to combat domestic violence, repeat driving under the influence (DUI) offenders and keeping youth from becoming involved with drugs and alcohol.

“We continuously work to find solutions to the relationship of drugs and alcohol to all crimes, particularly domestic violence,” he said.

Strandlie is a member of the Working Together Coalition, which focuses on educating youth about the risks and consequences of alcohol consumption, as well as educating kids about alternatives to drinking. He said the county attorney’s office also is committed to the success of Wellness Court, a collaboration between the Cass County and the Leech Lake Tribal Courts that provides intensive supervision of qualified repeat DUI offenders.

He serves on several local non-profit boards and committees and was recently elected to serve on the board of directors of the Minnesota County Attorney’s Association.

Strandlie has been a volunteer firefighter for 18 years and serves as a director, coach and Zamboni driver for Walker Youth Hockey. He has served on the Walker-Hackensack-Akeley School Board and the Leech Lake Area Chamber of Commerce. He is a member of the Walker American Legion and is a lifelong member of Hope Lutheran Church of Walker.

He and his wife, Erica, live in Walker and have four children.
