Nisswa P&Z Commission action clarified
The Echo Journal incorrectly reported the name of the chair of the Nisswa Planning and Zoning Commission in the Feb. 27 edition. Ann Beaver is chair. Tom Groen is vice chair.
Regarding the planning commission vote on an application fee for an interim use permit for 2014 events for the Nisswa Chamber of Commerce, Beaver clarified that Groen said he didn’t want the commission to set a precedent by waiving the fee and one or two commission members agreed with him, but several didn’t.
The commission was pretty evenly split on charging the chamber a fee, she said. Some wanted to charge the whole fee, one or two didn’t want to charge any fee and others favored a reduced fee.
After two motions (one charging the whole fee and one charging a greatly reduced fee) failed on 3-3 votes, a motion to charge a $200 instead of $350 fee passed on a 4-2 vote.
The city council ultimately waived the fee for 2014 and asked the planning commission to review the fee schedule for the city and suggest a structure so all are on a level playing field.
