Pierce resigns from Nisswa City Council

Nisswa City Council member Jan Pierce resigned from her council seat Monday, Feb. 24.

“Truthfully, I have a moral and philosophical disagreement with the direction that the leadership is taking, or not taking, and I can’t support what the city council’s doing any longer, period,” Pierce said by phone Wednesday, Feb. 26.

“I love this city and this is one of the hardest decisions I’ve made,” she said.

Pierce declined to elaborate further or to more clearly identify what she meant by “leadership.”

Pierce was appointed to the council in December 2011 to fulfill the term of Harold Kraus, who had resigned from his council seat. She was elected in 2012, and her current term expires at the end of 2016.

Pierce said her resignation was effective Friday, Feb. 21.
