Erholtz to reign as Miss Nisswa

Ellie Erholtz, a senior at Pequot Lakes High School (PLHS), was crowned Miss Nisswa 2014 on Friday, Feb. 14, at Lutheran Church of the Cross in Nisswa.

Makyla Thomsen was crowned First Princess and Becca Langer won Second Princess and Miss Congeniality. Both are also PLHS seniors.

Another PLHS senior, Chloe Foster, was the essay winner and will receive $350. Shayna Vastila, a Brainerd High School (BHS) senior, won the personal interview and will receive $350.

As Miss Nisswa, Erholtz won a $3,000 scholarship. Thomsen will receive a $2,000 scholarship as First Princess. Langer receives a $1,500 scholarship as Second Princess and $400 as Miss Congeniality.

Kayla Herubin and McKinleigh Rude, BHS seniors, also competed in the pageant.

Nisswa Elementary School second-grader Ella Kratochvil is Little Miss Nisswa 2014, claiming the title on her birthday. She was among 10 participants in the 23rd annual Little Miss Nisswa Program. Others were Adrian Dambouy, Stella Davis, Eva Oium, Samara Smith, Addie Wirtz, Anna Berg, Siena Conrad, Marlow Carlson and Jasmine Patnoe.

Erholtz, Langer and Thomsen are part of a Miss Nisswa family tradition. Erholtz’s sister, Claire, was Second Princess in 2012. Langer’s sister, Rachael, was Miss Congeniality in 2011. Thomsen’s sister, Savannah, was Miss Congeniality in 2008.

Senior escorts were John Torgerson, Dylan Stumvoll and Brady Arndt. Nisswa second-graders Harrison Waidelich and Nate Herkenhoff were Little Miss Nisswa escorts.

Stacey Waidelich, a member of the pageant sponsor Nisswa Women of Today, was mistress of ceremonies. The theme of the 42nd annual pageant was Under the Sea.

Passing on their titles were Miss Nisswa 2013 Carissa Voels and Little Miss Nisswa 2013 Mattie Holst.

The Miss Nisswa competition included the personal essay and interview, which were completed before the pageant. At the pageant, contestants modeled casual wear and evening gowns, and each answered an impromptu question.
