Area racers have top finishes at Lutsen

Despite chilly temperatures, seven of Mount Ski Gull’s Alpine Team made the podium with top finishes at the Northland Junior Race Series (NJRS) meet Sunday, Jan. 26, in Lutsen.

In the girls’ 16 and older division, Emily Aga of Nisswa took first-place honors with a time of 52.54. In the girls’ 14-15 division, second place went to Addison McGuire of Crosslake with a time of 58.33. With a time of 1:08.27, Matthew Sherman of Pequot Lakes took third place.

In the girls’ 12-13 division, Crosslake’s Grace McGuire took second place in 53.40. East Gull Lake’s Emma Hiebert took first place with 1:04.55 and Madison Kalenberg of Nisswa was second in 1:04.92 in the girls’ 10-11 division.

In the boys’ 8-9 division, Gavin Hoelzel of East Gull Lake took top honors in 1:15.10.

After a bye week, the next scheduled NJRS race is Sunday, Feb. 9, at Giant’s Ridge in Biwabik. There are two races remaining before the Championship Race on March 2 at Mount Ski Gull.
