Endicott picked for WHA superintendent

Eagle View Elementary Principal Dave Endicott has been chosen as Walker-Hackensack-Akeley (W-H-A) School District’s next superintendent.

“I’m excited,” Endicott said in a phone interview, adding, “It’s bittersweet. I love where I work right now and the people I work with.”

He said he’s negotiating a contract with the district, and nothing’s been signed yet. According to the W-H-A website, the school board intends to have a contract finalized by Feb. 10.

Endicott has some superintendent experience; he was superintendent/elementary principal in Ogilvie before coming to Pequot Lakes School District.

Recently he was a finalist in the Pequot Lakes superintendent search. That position was awarded to Chris Lindholm.

“Going through the Pequot Lakes superintendent search kind of lit the fire again,” he said.

He anticipates staying in Pequot Lakes and commuting to Walker, as he has family in the area.

W-H-A School Board Chair Lori Stein said by email that the board is still in negotiations with Endicott, and did not take any action on the contract at its most recent meeting Monday, Jan. 13.

“You’re leaving people you’ve invested time and energy with but it (Pequot Lakes) is a good place and they’ll be in good hands moving forward I’m sure,” Endicott said.

He added that the school year’s not over yet.

“We still have a lot of this year left. We’ll finish this year off on a strong note, doing the things we do with great staff, great kids and great parents,” he said.

If an agreement is reached, Endicott’s first day at W-H-A will be July 1. Currently W-H-A is operating under an interim superintendent following the early resignation of its former superintendent, Dr. Mary Donohue Stetz, according to the Walker Pilot Independent.
