Children tell Santa their Christmas wishes in Backus

Email

Santa Claus entertained more than 100 children and accompanying adults Saturday, Dec. 14, at the Backus American Legion Auxiliary’s annual Kids’ Christmas Party.

The children received goodie bags, a jingle bell necklace and Beanie Babies, crafted a Christmas ornament for their home and enjoyed a complimentary lunch.

Judging from the children’s requests, Santa Claus is going to have a full sleigh when he makes his rounds spreading gifts and joy on Christmas Eve. Basketballs, tools, Sophia princess and Barbie dolls, an Iron Man robot, iPads and a LeapFrog pad, fishing pole, a “deer” lamp, tricycle and — a request any dad tired of lawn duty might appreciate — a leaf blower, were among Christmas wishes the kids passed on to Santa Claus.

Hot dogs, chips, soft drinks, brownies, cookies and Rice Krispy bars satisfied many a tummy and the goodie bags filled with apples, pencils, crayons, jump ropes, candy and Christmas notebooks helped spread the Christmas cheer.

Funding and other donations for the party came from the Backus Legion Post, the post Auxiliary, Godfrey’s Family Foods, the Backus Lions, the Backus Branch of First National Bank of Walker and Curt Olstad.
