Central Lakes Rotarians participate in Salvation Army bell ringing

Central Lakes Rotary Club members participated in bell ringing Nov. 23 at both Pequot Lakes SuperValu and Pine River Family Market.

“People were just great and very generous, and we had several tell us how glad they were to see us out so early,” said Diane Collins, Rotary spokeswoman.

In December, Central Lakes Rotary will welcome its newest member, Jackie Paschall, manager of US Bank in Pequot Lakes, and the club will hold its annual Holiday Gala and Silent Auction at Bites Bar and Grill in Pine River.

Other projects conducted this fall included the club’s largest fundraising event, Rotary Rose Sales, as well as its Santa Letter program and Herberger’s Community Days. Proceeds from Community Days will benefit the area food shelves in Pine River, Pequot Lakes and Crosslake.

Central Lakes Rotary has also purchased several Sawyer Water Filters for use in remote areas of Mexico and will purchase a ShelterBox to aid victims of the recent typhoon in the Philippines, all as part of its international work. In addition, Rotarians are serving as mentors for the new S.T.R.I.V.E. (Students Taking a Renewed Interest in the Value of Education) at Pine River-Backus High School. This program began this school year under the leadership and direction of Central Lakes Rotarian Dick Teegen and his wife, Evie.

Central Lakes Rotary meets at 7:15 a.m. Tuesdays for a breakfast meeting and program at Brenny Reception Room in Pequot Lakes. For more information about Central Lakes Rotary Club, contact Rotarians Dick Teegen at 218-682-2863 or Al Ploeger at 218-587-4463.
