Lake Shore approves 2014 road project cost estimates
The Lake Shore City Council on Monday, Nov. 25, approved the following 2014 road project cost estimates:
• Jacob’s Road: $43,800 for 800 feet of road sub-grade reconstruction and repaving.
• 72nd Street: $87,000 for 2,650 feet of road paving. This is a joint assessed project with Loon Lake Township. Estimated costs are: Lake Shore (65 percent), $65,377; and Loon Lake Township (35 percent), $35,203.
Of Lake Shore’s portion, the city would pay $26,150 (40 percent); and property owners would pay the assessed portion (60 percent) of $39,226.
• Diana Drive: $53,400 for 1,335 feet of pavement reconstruction.
• Doyle Parkway: $29,500 for 330 feet of road reconstruction and storm pond construction.
All projects include a 10 percent contingency fee. The council also approved an engineering proposal with Widseth Smith Nolting engineering firm for $28,900.
Total estimated construction costs for 2014 street improvements are $172,170, which is figured after the city is reimbursed its share for the 72nd Street project. In other road business, the council decided not to stripe Jacob’s Road, despite a citizen’s request to do so on two hills for safety, because of liability and because other roads aren’t striped.
