CSAH 77 reconstruction at least two years away

It will take a minimum of two years and at least four public meetings before Cass County decides on a design and construction plan to reconstruct County State Aid Highway (CSAH) 77 in Lake Shore, County Engineer David Enblom told the county board Oct. 15.

The board authorized Enblom to contract with WSB & Associates Inc. for engineering services at a price not to exceed $210,212. Also authorized is up to $18,340 to conduct a federally funded environmental process if a federal grant can be obtained for that.

Separately, the board endorsed the city of Lake Shore’s use of public funds if Minnesota DNR grants can be obtained to design a recreational trail adjacent to CSAH 77.

The board awarded a contract to low bidder Aspen Woods Lawn Service Inc. to plow snow at the land department building in Backus for $85 per hour.

Land Commissioner Joshua Stevenson informed the board he has received several phone calls from people offering opinions and seeking more information about Enbridge’s proposed Sandpiper pipeline through Cass County. The county is not involved in decision making about this project, he said. Minnesota Public Utilities Commission (MPUC) is currently receiving comment and considering whether to approve the need and route for the proposed line.
