Woman charged in fatal accident

A 24-year-old Brainerd woman was charged in Cass County District Court on Friday, Oct. 11, following a fatal motor vehicle and bicycle collision Thursday, Oct. 10, in Lake Shore.

Kerri Marie Zelinske was arraigned in Cass County District Court on three felony counts of criminal vehicular homicide for allegedly operating a motor vehicle in a negligent manner while under the influence of alcohol, or with a blood alcohol content of .08 or more, when she struck and killed a 57-year-old Brainerd man, according to Cass County attorney Christopher Strandlie.

Leonard Grabowski died in the accident that happened at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 10 near the intersection of County Road 70 and Gull River Road near Lake Shore. Zelinske was also charged with two counts of misdemeanor fourth-degree driving under the influence, Strandlie said.

The felonies carry a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison of a $20,000 fine or both; the misdemeanors carry a maximum penalty of 90 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.

Bail was set at $150,000 without conditions or $100,000 with conditions.

Zelinske’s next court date is scheduled for 1 p.m. Oct. 21.
