Home, belongings, and pets lost in fire Monday, family asks for donations
No one was injured but three family dogs died in a house fire Monday, Oct. 7, on Arrowhead Drive east of Pine River. The fire destroyed the home owned by Ed Gard.
Ideal Township, Crosslake, Pine River and Pequot Lakes fire departments responded.
The state fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire, which has not yet been determined.
“There’s nothing suspicious as of this point,” said Ken Stoltman, assistant fire chief with the Ideal Fire Department.
“They did all they could do. They were fighting it as much as they could,” said Kasey Haehnel, Gard’s granddaughter.
Though Gard had only one other family member living with him, the fire destroyed property belonging to other family members as well.
“Everything was here. We had all of our photo albums and everything here,” Haehnel said.
“The family pretty much lost everything here. They are looking for donations of clothing and whatever other items people would give,” Stoltman said.
Haehnel said Ole & Lena’s Sweet Revenge in Pine River has agreed to allow dropoffs of clothing and other items for the family. In addition, monetary donations are being accepted at U.S. Bank in Pine River. Donations should be made to Ed Gard’s account at that bank.
