According to its agenda, the Crow Wing County Board will vote Tuesday, Sept. 24, whether to provide planning and zoning services to the city of Crosslake. The Crosslake City Council will then hold a special meeting that night at 7 p.m. to determine what route it will take concerning planning and zoning.

Currently Crosslake has two planning and zoning staff members; council member Mark Wessels said by phone Friday that both employees would no longer work for the city if the county and city both decide to move forward with the proposal.

According to county board agenda materials, the county is proposing to provide all of Crosslake planning and zoning duties at a cost of $15,834 a month. By phone, county Land Services Supervisor Chris Pence said that proposal includes two staff members at the Crosslake City Hall office, but he said staffing details are not entirely worked out.

Crosslake has a regularly scheduled meeting Monday night, Sept. 23, but as of Friday there were no agenda items for that night concerning planning and zoning. The meeting will adjourn to Sept. 24 at 7 p.m., when the council will discuss the planning and zoning matter.

Adjourning the meeting until Tuesday night allows the council to respond to the county’s decision, Wessels said. The county board agenda for Sept. 24 shows the board will discuss providing Crosslake services at 10 a.m.
