East Gull Lake approves levy proposal

The Pine River City Council on Tuesday, Sept. 10, set a preliminary 2014 tax levy of $414,998.

This amount is $41,127 higher than this year’s $373,871 levy. That was the same levy amount from the year before.

This amount is not finalized, but is a preliminary estimate. The actual levy will be decided in December.

“We can always cut in December, but we cannot increase,” said City Clerk Wanda Mongan.

The council also set a truth in taxation meeting for Dec. 10 at 6:30 p.m.

Also Sept. 10, the council:

• Heard from building inspector Jeff Melberg that the Artisan’s Corner building has yet to be repaired to meet safety standards. The council agreed to begin the legal process by sending the owners official notice. Failure to act could lead to the building changing ownership.

• Heard that city attorney Ted Lundrigan will meet with Steve Hansen of the Library Foundation and library committee member Tammy Hansen to discuss a simplified library lease.

• Heard that city insurance rates are set to increase 32 percent.

• Approved the transfer of the title for the Ride-With-Us-Bus to Brainerd Public Transit Sept. 30.
