For the fourth year in a row, Crow Wing County will not raise the property tax levy.

Since 2010, the County Board has reduced the levy by $1,484,154 while increasing services to county residents.

“Our commissioners and staff have worked hard together with a long-term vision of fiscal prudence and public responsibility,” said Rachel Reabe Nystrom, board chair. “This levy reflects our commitment to holding the line on taxes. At the same time, we continue to improve services to our county customers. I want to thank my fellow commissioners for their steadfast commitment to this vision and to our employees for continuing to deliver on it.”

Over the course of the last year, Crow Wing County has improved service delivery across county government by launching online initiatives.

“We no longer require many of our customers to come to us. Customers can log on at their convenience and transact business in more service areas than ever before.” Nystrom said.

A 2014 budget and levy meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26. The meeting is specifically designed by state statute to publicly discuss the county’s 2014 budget and levy intentions.

The county board will approve a 2014 final budget and levy at the regularly scheduled Tuesday, Dec. 10, meeting. The final levy amount cannot exceed the preliminary levy of $34,737,542; however, it could be further reduced if deemed prudent.

Preliminary 2014 budget and levy information can be viewed on Crow Wing County’s website at www.crowwing.us, listed under the Financial Services Division within the Auditor-Treasurer’s Office.

Crow Wing County property tax levies in the last five years: 2010, $36,221,696; 2011, $35,721,696, 1.38 percent decrease; 2012, $34,876,657, 2.37 percent decrease; 2013, $34,737,542, 0.40 percent decrease; 2014 proposed, $34,737,542.
