City of Emily offers Clerk position to Okerman
The position of city clerk/treasurer for the city of Emily was offered to Krista Okerman, the current Jenkins city clerk, according to draft meeting minutes from the Emily City Council meeting Tuesday, Sept. 10.
However, Okerman declined the offer.
The Emily City Council also approved a 2014 preliminary tax levy of $924,405, according to draft meeting minutes. That’s a 6 percent increase over this year. The council will hold a truth in taxation meeting at 6 p.m. Dec. 10. Until the budget is finalized in December, the preliminary levy can be lowered but not raised.
The council also decided to rescind a motion from the Aug. 13 regular council meeting for a 99-year lease with the Emily Emergency Food Shelf. The new lease offered to the food shelf includes a 25-year span at the cost of $1 per year with the option to renew with the same terms.
In other business, according to draft minutes, the council:
• Accepted the verbal propane contract rate of $1.499 per gallon to Ferrellgas for the 2013-14 heating year.
• Decided to contact the DNR to set a public meeting to discuss issues with the dam and low water levels for the Emily and Mary Lake Chain.
• Announced the Emily and Fifty Lakes City Clean Up Day will be from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 21. The collection site will be located by the Emily City Shop/Recycling area.
