The council discussed forming such a committee at a roads workshop Aug. 20. Minutes from that meeting show the purpose would be to develop a five-year plan that would consider both roadway paving and the extension of sewer along with paving.

Minutes also say that the only immediate concern for the committee will be the 2014 seal coat schedule.

The committee will work with city staff and the city’s consulting engineer.

Public safety

The Breezy Point Police Department reported 248 calls for service in August, including 127 traffic, four traffic arrests, 15 medical, 22 animal-related, 37 agency assists and 28 miscellaneous.

In other business Sept. 3, the council:

• Decided not to pass a special events ordinance. City Administrator Joe Rudberg had presented the ordinance for council consideration in light of recent events like the Hairball concert and a concert held at Primetime. The council decided to wait on the ordinance and give the business community a chance to weigh in. Though two council members supported the ordinance, it was defeated.

• Agreed in a 3-2 vote to sell a tax-forfeited lot to Breezy Point Estates for $1. The lot will allow Breezy Point Estates to expand its laundry facility while maintaining impervious surface requirements. Rudberg noted in a memo that adding the lot to the tax rolls would provide some benefit to the city. Council members Diane Williams and Willer voted against the sale.

• Heard a report from police chief Kevin Merschman on the Hairball concert held Labor Day weekend. Merschman said there were no substantial issues from the concert. A Toward Zero Deaths shift was held during the concert, and one person was arrested for DWI, but that arrest was not in relation to the concert.
