Woodland stewardship program offered
Do you own more than 20 acres of woodlands in targeted lake areas? The Crow Wing Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) has a program and funds to assistance private woodland owners.
Landowners who own 20-acre woodlands or larger and live within tullibee lake watershed are eligible for grant funds, said Darren Mayers, district technician.
Grants funds will provide low-cost forest stewardship plan, technical assistance and funding for: forest stand improvement cuttings, tree planting, invasive species control, habitat management, trail improvement and erosion control.
To sign up for this program, contact Darren Mayers at firstname.lastname@example.org or 218-828-6197.
Once a landowner has a forest stewardship plan he is eligible for tax relief and incentive payments.
Crow Wing County and SWCD can work with participants to enroll their land into Sustainable Forestry Incentive Act FISA annul incentive payment or Class 2c, which can lower the woodland property tax rate. Contact the Crow Wing County Assessor’s Office at 218-824-1010 or email@example.com.
