Swenson Aggregate chosen for Jenkins road work
Swenson Aggregate was awarded the bid to perform road work on Half Mile Road, according to Jenkins City Council action Monday, Aug. 12.
Swenson Aggregate was chosen from three bids, at $8,505 for 900 yards of Class I graded and compacted. Swenson Aggregate added another 100 yards of Class I. City Clerk Krista Okerman said that even with the cost of the extra Class I, the bid was still $50 lower than the next lowest bid.
Okerman said the council decided to pay the extra $945.
In other business, the council:
• Extended a conditional use permit (CUP) held by Cindy Stiller for the purpose of constructing storage buildings. Stiller’s original CUP was granted in July of 2011 and would have expired within two years if not extended.
• Scheduled a budget workshop for Monday, Aug. 26, at the city hall.
• Discussed options for improving water drainage issues on Veterans Street in front of the VFW. Mayor Jon Lubke said the utilities in the area had been flagged and marked. Lubke said he received a $1,500 bid from Ted Ebnet after several people studied the problem to see what could be done. Because the project is only partially on the right-of-way it was suggested that the cost of the drainage could be split with the VFW.
The council agreed to accept Ebnet’s bid up to $2,000 contingent upon the VFW paying for half of the final bill.
