Hackensack children's fishing contest week 7

Week 7 of the Hackensack Children’s Fishing Contest (HCFC) started off a little cloudy and cool, but turned into a sunny and warm day. In all, 97 kids competed and 231 fish were caught. There are only 3 weeks left, so make sure to get to the Hackensack City Pier to experience this event. Also, any volunteers and sponsors of the contest, mark your calendars for the year-end party on Aug. 20 at 5 p.m. at the Horseshoe pavilion in Hackensack.

Each week we will have a memorial picture for Robert Kennedy, father of the HCFC who passed away on April 28, with a border frame for everyone to sign. Stop by and sign it in remembrance of him.

All the usual things are happening at the contest this year, free bait, free hot dogs, free pop/water, free minnow races, free casting contest. Bring a pole and PFD (“life jacket”) and come have fun, for ages 0-15. Everyone receives prizes and anyone can be the grand champion and win the rod/reel combo with tackle box full of tackle.

This year, the contest runs every Tuesday through Aug. 20. And brand new this year, we are giving away a $400 Garmin GPS at the end of the year. Each registering youth can enter one time for the year (duplicate entries will be thrown out) and we will draw the winner at the end of the season. Need not be present to win, just to enter.
