Council debates city planner/administrator job description

The Nisswa City Council and city department heads discussed a draft of the job description for the city planner/administrator position Wednesday, July 17, a topic that quickly became controversial.

Mayor Brian Lehman said the job description and title changes were intended to reflect the administrative work city planner Loren Wickham already does and has done for some time.

Council member Lenny Hodgson, police chief Craig Taylor, city clerk Laurie Hemish and fire chief Richard Geike expressed frustration and concern about the wording of the job description, which seemed to state that the department heads would be responsible to the individual in the position of city planner/administrator.

After some heated discussion, Lehman charged council members Jan Pierce and Gary Johnson with looking into the job description and making recommendations to the council at the August meeting.
