Council approves CSAH 3 project design
The Crosslake City Council on Monday, July 22, approved the design of County State Aid Highway (CSAH) 3 on a 3-1 vote.
This approval was given following the council’s agreement June 8 to move forward with the project after considering a petition with more than 70 signatures opposing the current plan.
City attorney Brad Person said no legal process was required by such a petition, although the city should certainly listen to the public.
Council member Steve Roe said, “I think this petition goes beyond causing us to take legal action. I think we are obligated to listen to our citizens and be aware and take notice.”
Roe questioned the necessity of a 100-foot right-of-way and 8-foot paved shoulders on both sides of the road.
However, the majority of the council still supported the agreement to move forward with the design as is.
“I think a few people might change their mind once the road is done,” said council member Mark Wessels. “I think people will like it.”
The CSAH 3 reconstruction project includes nearly six miles from County Road 37 in Crosslake to County Road 1 in Fifty Lakes and is scheduled for next summer.
