A sweet day despite some rain: Sweetheart Day in Hackensack

Despite scattered rain showers, Hackensack’s Sweetheart Day on July 9 went forward with kids games, inflatable games, a book sale, a pre-parade show featuring the North Star Cycle Patrol of the Shriners from Grand Rapids and a parade down First Street.

Other events included a scavenger hunt where Leena Woodell of LaPorte and Guy Boyles and Cheyenne Tilberry of Backus won $150 for finding the most items.

Parade winners are as follows:

Best float was awarded to Kevin’s Auto Body, best color guard went to Spencer-Ross American Legion of Walker and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church was voted best church float.

A prize raffle was also conducted after the parade. Winners were Todd Josephson, of Hackensack, $500; Pat Fisher, Hackensack, gas grill; Denny Fuchs, patio set; D. Parker, $50 gift certificate to Swanson’s Bait; and Terry Schultz, Madison, S.D., $50 gift certificate to Southside Fuel Plus.
