Tunnel taking shape in Nisswa
Cement work on the west entrance of the pedestrian tunnel on Highway 371 in Nisswa took place recently. Crews are scheduled to finish concrete work and the final shaping of gravel this week, with paving of northbound highway lanes scheduled next week.
Weather permitting, traffic will be switched from the northbound lanes to the newly paved southbound lanes the week of July 22, said Tony Hughes, Minnesota Department of Transportation District 3 resident construction engineer.
The next phase of the project will be to regrade and pave the northbound lanes, complete tunnel work on the downtown side of the highway and locate a permanent traffic signal at the new Highway 371-County Road 18 intersection.
The temporary traffic lights at Nisswa Avenue will remain until the project is completed this fall. When traffic switches to one lane in each direction in the southbound lanes, the only entrance into and out of downtown Nisswa via Highway 371 will be at the temporary lights at Nisswa Avenue.
