Crow Wing County seeks public comment on land use ordinance revisions

The Crow Wing County Land Services Department is requesting public comment on proposed revisions to the County Land Use Ordinance.

The ordinance revisions can be viewed on the county website at by clicking on the “CWC Listens” button on the home page.

Written comments on the proposed changes will be accepted until Aug. 9 and may be submitted to the Environmental Services Office at or mailed to 322 Laurel St., Suite 14, Brainerd, MN 56401.

A public hearing to review the proposed revisions is set for 5 p.m. Sept. 19 before the Planning Commission in the County Board Room on the third floor of the Historic Courthouse at 326 Laurel St., Brainerd.

The Planning Commission will make a recommendation on the proposed ordinance revisions to the county board for final approval at the Oct. 8 meeting.

There are five articles in the Land Use Ordinance that are being revised: Article 11-Shoreland District Standards; Article 25-Animals in Residential Districts; Article 28-Dirt Moving; Article 41-Stormwater Management; and Article 46-Definitions.

The revisions include clarifying language for guest cottages and guest quarters, road setbacks, commercial setbacks and agricultural use standards. Revisions are also proposed to clarify animals allowed in residential districts, dirt moving amounts, impervious requirements for conservation design and definitions.
