Time to celebrate

The lakes area celebrates summer in style with an array of Fourth of July activities. Following is a rundown of area city events:


Wednesday, July 3

6 p.m.: Food vendors at Trailside Park.

6 p.m.: Bed Races along the Paul Bunyan State Trail.

6 p.m.: Minnow Races at Trailside Park.

6-11 p.m.: Beer Gardens at Trailside Park.

7:30 p.m.: Pig Races with L.A. Racing Pigs at Trailside Park.

8:15 p.m.: Pie-Eating Contest at Trailside Park.

9 p.m.-midnight: Whiskey Richards Band at Trailside Park.

After dusk: Fireworks by Zambelli Fireworks International at the Pequot Lakes High School ballfields.

Thursday, July 4

9 a.m.-4 p.m.: Flea Market & Craft Fair at Trailside Park.

9 a.m.-4 p.m.: Food vendors at Trailside Park.

10 a.m.: Minnow races at Trailside Park.

10 a.m.: Money in the haystack at Trailside Park.

10 a.m.: Kiddie parade registration in the chamber building parking lot.

11 a.m.: Kiddie parade in the chamber building parking lot.

Noon: Stars & Stripes Parade.


Wednesday, July 3

11 a.m.-8 p.m.: Eats and treats throughout town.

11 a.m.-6 p.m.: Crafter and market space vendors.

11 a.m.-6 p.m.: Bounce house for kids by the Turtle Race track.

11 a.m.-6 p.m.: Stage coach rides around town

1 p.m.: Turtle Race registration begins.

1 p.m.: Water Wars at the Turtle Race track.

2 p.m.: Turtle Races begin.

4 p.m.: Chalk drawing contest registration at the gazebo. The contest will start when the Turtle Races end. Bring your own chalk.

4-5:30 p.m.: Live music by Alpheus Ward Project at the gazebo.

4-6 p.m.: Kids Corner featuring arts and crafts at the Nisswa Chamber office in Nisswa Square.

4-6 p.m.: Live music on the Pickle Factory patio.

5:30 p.m.: Kiddie parade starting at the former chamber building by the Turtle Race track, proceeding downtown on the sidewalk to Nisswa Square.

5:45-6:15 p.m.: Beyond the Yellow Ribbon ceremony at the gazebo.

7 p.m.: Parade on Main Street with Bruce Carlson, a four-star U.S. Air Force retired general, as grand marshal.

After parade: Street dance with DB3 at the Pickle Factory.

Saturday, July 6

8 a.m.: Nisswa Firecracker 10K, 5K and Kids Run, downtown Nisswa.


Saturday, July 6

8:30 a.m.: Run for the Walleye and Sunfish Dash, Crosslake Community Center

Dusk (10:15 p.m.): Fireworks from Sand Island on Cross Lake.


Saturday, July 6

11 a.m.: Independence Day Parade and Centennial Celebration at Mission Park.


Wednesday, July 3

4-11 p.m.: Battle of the Bands, Don Adamson Football Field, Brainerd High School.

7 p.m.: Gospel Night, Heritage Assembly of God Church.

Thursday, July 4

Noon: Brainerd Bees vs. Fort Ripley Raptors baseball game.

4 p.m.: The American Celebration Parade, Brainerd.

6:30 p.m.: Entertainment by Ladies of the ‘80s, Don Adamson Field, Brainerd High School.

10:15 p.m.: Fireworks, Don Adamson Field, Brainerd High School.

Friday, July 5

7-10 p.m.: Show & Shine Car Show, Bodyworks, Baxter.

Sunday, July 7

10-4:30 p.m.: Arts in the Park featuring 140 artisans, entertainment and food, Gregory Park, Brainerd.

July 4-7

27th annual NAPA Auto Parts Show ‘N’ Go, Brainerd International Raceway.
