Experience Bean Hole Days, Arts & Crafts Fair

It’s time to dig out Thor, Big Bertha, Ole, Sven, Lena and Baby Olga for the Pequot Lakes Bean Hole Days celebration Monday-Wednesday, July 8-10.

Thousands will gather at noon Wednesday, July 10, at Trailside Park in Pequot Lakes to share a free lunch of baked beans, a dinner roll and a glass of Culligan water.

The fun begins with the Paddle Hunt — the first clue will be released at 9 a.m. Monday, July 8.

On Tuesday night, July 9, the baked beans will be buried in the ground.

And on Wednesday, July 10, the celebration will culminate with the raising of the beans, a Queen and King Bean coronation, an arts and crafts fair, food market, children’s games and, of course, lunch.

Following is a list of events:

July 8

Paul Bunyan’s paddle needs to be found before the beans are raised Wednesday, July 10, so he can stir the beans. One clue will be released at 9 a.m. each day, July 9-11, at www.pequotlakes.com.

July 10

6 p.m.: Burying of the Beans Ceremony.The beans, prepared from Paul Bunyan’s secret recipe behind locked doors, will be buried in five huge cast iron kettles and cooked over a wood fire during the night. The largest kettle, Thor, is on display by the Pequot Lakes Chamber building.

July 11

9 a.m.-4 p.m.: Arts & Crafts Fair and concessions along the Paul Bunyan Trail.

11:15 a.m.: Coronation ceremony. Who will be this year’s Queen or King Bean?

11:30 a.m.: Raising of the beans.

Noon: Serving of the beans. Volunteers will serve a free bowl of baked beans, bun and beverage to thousands of participants.

Commemorative T-shirts and bowls will be sold Mondya, Tuesday and Wednesday, July 8-10, as supplies last at the Pequot Lakes Welcome Center in Trailside Park.
