Emily Food Shelf seeks donations for grant
The Emily Emergency Food Shelf has an opportunity to apply for a grant through Hunger Solutions Minnesota.
The total grant available is $150,000. Food shelves that raise funds in July will receive a proportion of the whole amount, ranging from $250 to $4,000.
The Open Your Heart program sponsored by Hunger Solutions oversees the food shelves and Second Harvest program in Minnesota. The grant program will allow food shelves to distribute additional food and increase the number of children they are able to serve and the amount of nutritious food they are able to provide to the children during the grant period.
The program runs through July.
The Emily Food Shelf is open to families in need in Emily, Outing and Fifty Lakes, and Little Pine, Ross Lake and Fairfield townships. The Food Shelf is in the old Emily City Hall and distribution dates are the third Wednesday of every month from 9:30-11 a.m. and the following day, Thursday, from 5:30-6:30 p.m.
Purchased food will be bagged up separately for the children, containing nutritious, child friendly snacks. This will be distributed at the Emily Food Shelf every month though summer along with the other groceries provided from the food shelf.
This program is designed to serve families with children who are living at or below 200 percent of the poverty guidelines.
Donations may be sent to Emily Food Shelf, 42145 Birchwood Drive, Emily, MN 56447.
