Effective June 17, all visitors to community services, with the exception of the work force center, will check in at the customer service desks located in the first floor lobby. Visitors to the work force center will continue to go directly to the second floor.

“By having all customers check in on the first floor we are providing easier access, and we can serve the customer more quickly and efficiently,” Skogen said. “We are creating a less complex system of navigation for the customer. In addition, we can better cross-train our support staff .”

The change mostly affects those customers who visit the income maintenance and social service offices. “Intake social workers and financial workers will conduct interviews on the first floor,” Skogen said. “Service windows will be closed on the second and third floors.”

Skogen said another advantage to having all the customer service counters located on the first floor will be for those visitors who are required to meet with several staff members. “Previously, customers had to check in at windows on multiple floors.” Skogen added. “Staff will now come to the customer instead of the other way around.”

Phone and fax numbers will remain the same.

Crow Wing County’s Department of Community Services administers more than seventy federal and state benefit and assistance services and programs totaling more than $116 million dollars annually.
