The 2013 Pine River Relay for Life celebration on Friday, June 20, raised a grand total of $22,422.34 for the American Cancer Society.

The event was a success in spite of rainy weather which drove the Relay for Life into the Pine River-Backus performance gym and commons area.

Funds were raised through luminary sales, silent auction, pledges, food, and games. Evelyn Burley and Sandy Roscoe even competed against one another for the highest totals. Burley earned $1,635, and Roscoe earned $1,700.

Also attending the event were over 37 cancer survivors. Combined, their years of survival in the face of cancer totalled over 400 years.
