As usual, the parade hosted a variety of animals. With 38 registered parade participants, pets included a horse, a donkey, many dogs, guinea pigs, chickens, a rabbit and more.

Judges for the parade were Miss Pequot Lakes royalty — Miss Pequot Lakes Angela Cole and her escort, Katie Nelson, and Princess Cheyenne Wilson and her escort, Leah Johnson. Best in show was awarded to Craig and Julie Friday, who brought their horse, KC, a Pequot Lakes Police Reserve riderless tribute to fallen riding officers.

The look-alike award went to Megan Mastuzzi, 8, of Pine River, and her standard poodle, Autumn. Best costume went to Claire and Emma Bauernfeind and their bichon frise, Annie. Emma and Annie both sported beachwear and sunglasses.

The most unusual pet award went to Maggie Hendrickson and her donkey, Peanut, and the best trick went to Brad McAfee and his Chihuahua, Buddy, who pulled McAfee on his scooter.

After the parade, vendors were set up outside the Cole Memorial Building, and pets and owners stuck around to play games, including doggie musical chairs. Members of 4-H who show dogs set up an agility course for dogs to try, and raised money for the proposed Sibley Park dog park.

Barb and Don Merritt, of Merritt Jewelers, coordinated the parade.
