Deb Simmons, chair of the parks and recreation committee, told the council of the need for conceptual artwork for advertisement and community support. The artwork, which will be created by Widseth Smith Nolting, will combine photos of the site of the fishing pier with digital modeling.

The committee will then use the artwork for brochures, signs and advertisements for its fundraising campaign. The council approved the artwork at a cost of $2,550.

Simmons said the plan for fundraising includes selling raffle tickets at local events. Because the city is prohibited from hosting a raffle, the city will collaborate with ARC (Advocacy, Resources and Community). Funds will then be split between the city and ARC.

The committee plans to sell raffle tickets at booths during area summertime festivals, including the Chokecherry Festival, Taste of Pequot and others.

The pier, which will be located on the channel of Pelican Lake on Breezy Point Drive, will be constructed in three phases, with a complete cost of around $250,000, Simmons said. She said it’s the committee’s desire not to use tax dollars to fund the pier.
