Birding Big Day hike

A Birding Big Day Hike will start at 7:45 a.m. Sunday, May 12, at the Northland Arboretum in Brainerd.

The bird count is sponsored by the Brainerd Lakes Area Audubon Society and the Northland Arboretum.

Both amateurs and experts will gather to identify and count birds at the arboretum. Participants will divide into teams and then head out on the trails to see how many bird species they can find from 8 a.m. to noon.

There will be a potluck and barbecue at noon with grill items provided by Brainerd Lakes Area Audubon Society.

This event is open to anyone interested in birds. Each team will have an experienced leader, so beginners are welcome.

This event is free and open to the public. Bring binoculars and a potluck item to share.
