Adult, youth gardening classes offered at Brainerd Public Library

University of Minnesota Extension Crow Wing County Master Gardeners are partnering with the Brainerd Public Library to offer adult and youth classes. Six adult classes and four youth classes will be offered.

The first adult class, Age is No Excuse … Get Out and Garden, was offered April 9.

The remaining five classes are Edible Landscaping facilitated by Jackie Burkey at noon Tuesday, May 14; City Chickens: Keeping a Backyard Flock facilitated by JoAnn Weaver at noon Tuesday, June 11; Introduction to Rain Gardens facilitated by Jackie Froemming at noon Tuesday, July 9; The Art of the Kitchen Garden facilitated by Weaver at noon Tuesday, Aug. 13; and Low-Maintenance Gardening facilitated by Froemming at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10.

The four youth classes are Terrariums by Debby Floerchinger on Wednesday, June 12; Kids Can Compost Too by Weaver on Wednesday, June 26; Worm Composting by Burkey on Wednesday, July 10; and Fairy Gardens by Tina Dunlap on Wednesday, July 17. All youth classes will start at 2 p.m.

These youth presentations are offered as part of the library’s Summer Reading Program.

Both adult and youth classes are free but pre-registration is suggested. To reserve a spot, call the Brainerd Public Library at 218-829-5574.
