PRAF receives Beautify America paint grant
The Pine River Area Foundation (PRAF) was a recent recipient of a Valspar Beautify America Paint Grant.
Jerry Peterson, a foundation board member, was approached by the Working Together Coalition and the Dam Park Task Force to write a grant application to the Initiative Foundation (IF) in Little Falls.
The IF has teamed up with the Valspar Corp. to accept grants for Minnesota Beautiful, a program where cities and nonprofit organizations in the IF’s 14-county region may apply for a grant to receive paint and coatings to complete restoration and beautification projects.
The program is being administered by the IF in partnership with Valspar Corp. A goal of the program is to encourage local volunteer involvement in the painting process.
The Valspar Corp. has donated 49 gallons of paint to the PRAF that will be applied in May and June (weather permitting).
The PRAF, along with volunteers from the Dam Park Task Force, Pine River Chamber of Commerce, Working Together Coalition/Teens Leading the Way, Pine River Revitalization Group, Heritage Group North and the Pine River Fire Department have partnered to clean, scrape and repaint the Dam Park bathroom structure inside and out and then paint murals on the exterior walls of the facility.
Another part of this project will be to clean, scrape and paint murals on the 15 existing metal trash cans sprinkled throughout town as well as five additional cans. Also part of this project will be to apply touchup paint to the exterior of the Pine River Railway Depot.
Organizers are looking for talented designers to submit proposals having the following theme ideas: Pine River History, Up North, Family Friendly, Natural Elements or Community Pride.
