75 years ago, April 21, 1938

From the Pine River Journal

A two-story and basement, concrete brick and tile school addition, together with remodeling work in the present building, at an estimated cost of $30,000 was started by WPA at Longville on Wednesday of last week.

The dance sponsored by the Oddfellow Lodge, held at the Armory Tuesday evening, was a huge success both financially and socially. One of the largest dance crowds in some time was present. There were between four and five hundred people present.

A transaction between Frank Stimac and Dave Goddard was completed in the past week, whereby Mr. Goddard has assumed management of the Pure Oil Station on Highway 371.

The newly chosen Miss Pine River for 1988 is Lynn Sears, a high school senior, who received the crown Saturday night at the PIne River Pageant. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Sears.

(Photo) This was the view looking east on County Road 15 just to the west of the Mary Brown bridge at 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Just minutes before, the strong winds had carried the flames across the roadway and into the Huntersville State Forest.

Pine River city residents may soon find themselves with new addresses, though they will be living or working in the same location.
