Crosslake School closing early; 4-6 inches of snow expected

Crosslake Community School is to close at 12:45 p.m. today, Thursday, April 11, because of the heavy, blowing snow.

Pequot Lakes Schools will stay in session until the regular time. Afternoon Early Special Education classes are canceled. A decision on after-school activities is expected to be made early this afternoon.

Pine River-Backus Schools also will remain in session until the normal time, as will Nisswa School in the Brainerd School District.

The Brainerd School District will have no afternoon Early Special Education or Early Childhood classes.

The district's website said snow is expected to diminish and plows will be on the roads by 1 p.m. to allow for busing home for all students at the regular times.

Ron Williams with the National Weather Service in Duluth said the area should expect 4-6 inches of snow.

"It's going to improve in the next couple of hours," he said at noon Thursday.

However, by 3 p.m., Williams said he expected roads to be slippery because of the snow.

The Minnesota State Patrol urges drivers to slow down and drive carefully.

Drivers should use their headlights, buckle up, allow plenty of time to get to their destination and not drive unless they have to. They also should stay back from snow plows.
